Welcome to the Alabama 4-H Science School
Established in 1994, the Alabama 4-H Science School prides itself in providing quality experiential environmental education through adventure, outdoor and science classes. The Science School is proud to serve a wide variety of students whether K through 12 school groups, college students, or private groups.
The Alabama 4-H Science School reachs approximately 23,500 youth a year.
The science school itself sees about 5,000 youth a year at the 4-H Center. These youth come from all over the state of Alabama, as well as Georgia.
These numbers do not include the dozens of youth and adult groups staying at the Conference Center and taking advantage of team building and other activities offered by the 4-H Science School. While not 4-H groups themselves, these corporate, religious and other groups help spread the message of 4-H across the state through both youth and adult participants.
The Alabama 4-H Science School outreach program (Herp Journey and Raptor Trek) reaches about 17,000 a year. The outreach program travels to several counties in Alabama and 1 county in Mississippi.
The Alabama 4-H Center Summer Camp program reaches approximately 1,500 youth aged 9-14 years. We had 65 counties participate in camp during the month of June. We have now added a 9th session in July to expand the number of youth able to participate in the summer camp experience.
We also have a comprehensive Counselor in Training (CIT) program. This program is specifically targeted to reach 15-17 year old youth with a desire to one day become a camp counselor.
We offer a full summer camp counselor program once the youth turn 18 that involves our best and brightest in all aspects of 4-H Summer Camp operations. Demand for summer camp remains extremely high and we are excited about the growth initiatives currently underway that will significantly expand opportunities for Alabama’s youth to experience 4-H Summer Camp!
Whether challenging your feats of courage on the high ropes course, exploring the wildlife on the Coosa River in a canoeing class, or meeting some of our animal ambassadors, the Alabama 4-H Science School provides a safe environment to grow and explore over 200 acres of forests, trails, and waterfront.
