Meet the Birds
American Kestrel - Falco sparverius
American kestrels are North America's smallest falcon. They are also one of the most colorful! The males and females have different color pattern- males have a slate blue head and wings to compliment a rusty brown back and tail while the females have only the slate blue color on their head. All falcons have stripes down the sides of their face and the kestrel actually has several.
Emily, the Center's resident falcon, was injured early in life and sustained a broken wing. She healed nicely from her injury, but her shoulder has some lingering problems rendering her unreleasable.
